Bocce Old Vine Zinfandel

2004 Bocce Old Vine Zinfandel

Our Old Vine Zinfandel has delightful aromas of white pepper, cranberry and cherry. On the palate, vibrant fresh red fruit flavors from younger grapevines blend beautifully with the full texture and rich, dark fruit that Old Vine Zinfandel contributes. Much like the way a gathering of friends celebrates shared moments past and present, this skillful combination of old and new results in timeless, contemporary appeal.

Vineyards
Although its genetic origins are still hotly debated, Zinfandel has long been considered an American grape variety. It thrives in warmer regions of California like Lodi—the state's first recognized American Viticultural Area (AVA). Some plantings in the Lodi region, where we source Bocce Old Vine Zin, date back to the early 1900s. The older the vines, the fewer clusters they produce. And these clusters get a little bit smaller with every year—so that we're harvesting tiny, fist-size cluster with tiny grapes for our wine. As you can imagine, smaller grapes mean that the juice inside each one has more contact with the grape skin around it. And since a wine's color and flavor come from its grape skins, more contact between juice and skins means richer fruit character. That's the beauty of old Zinfandel vines from Lodi.

Food Pairing Suggestions
In true Italian style, serve up our Old Vine Zin in your favorite tumblers and enjoy with a plate of prosciutto and broken Parmesan followed by pizza, pasta and barbecue—and an after-dinner game of Bocce Ball, of course!
